The First Graduating Class at Grundy County Jail

Congratulations to the first 2nd Opp graduating class at Grundy County Jail in Morris, Illinois. Thank you to Sheriff Ken Briley and Grundy County Board President Chris Balkema for allowing 2nd Opportunity to instruct our life-skills, employment-readiness, and re-entry programs in their facility. The men actively participated, completed the assignments, and created their personal re-entry plans and goals.

With recidivism rates continuing to soar—of the 96% of Illinois prisoners who will eventually be released, 17% will reoffend within a year, while 43% will reoffend within three years—we’re dedicated to using our lived experience, impactful programming, and deep resource network to empower those who have experienced a life-changing setback to become productive members of society and build a positive new future for themselves and their families. We’re looking forward to seeing many more classes at Grundy County through to graduation and beyond.
